I need to split 24 mics to 2 consoles. One is for live PA and the other for tha same time live recording. Does someone has an idea about? I was thinking with transformers but the cost will be high

Something cheaper?

Cheers

Transformers are they best way to do it and over isolation from RF etc, etc. But depending on the run (how long) you could try a Y cable and check the results Or make a mult like on a patch bay and should be o.k.

There is a problem with going direct out of the mixing board. Most direct outs are post fader so if someone is making an adjustment to control the sound of the PA it's also affecting the level to the recording system. I believe bitman is looking for a way to have seperate control for both. but good idea though :guinness: :guinness:

Maybe Bitman meant the insert sends? These are pre-fade normally. This is what i have done before now. I seriously recommend that you use transformers for this. I have used Sowter, and Stevens-Billington before now. Jensen, Llundahl, and Cinemag all make suitable ones. Perhaps there are some cheep far east imports that are appropriate?
Perhaps you could use the OEP type A262A6E? it is 150:150:150;150. These are certainly not expensive, @£8 each in this quantity, and I am sure that they will sound fine for this application. Anyone able to confirm suitability?

The project is for a friend of mine. He is working with a midas console ( i can't remember the model) at live music. The same time he wants to take a flat sound for recording and next day proccessing. I build for him 24 ch green mic pre for recording. His problem is that he can't take a flat sound from midas at the live show's time so he needs to split the mics to midas and green mic pre. Maybe the mida's direct out isn't totaly direct?
I don't know. He said me that he doesn't want record the equalized audio from midas but he needs a direct flat audio from the 24 ch green project.

I didn't know that OEP are so cheep. Where can i buy in europe?

Cheers

The midas insert out is probably post-EQ. The direct out might well be post-fader.

Usual practice is to use splitter TX's, but you can try Y connections. DO NOT PHANTOM from both sources, pick one and one only.

buy a 24 channel splitter from whirlwind...as it will probably be cheaper or the same price than diy'ing something.

yeah, I second the Whirlwind box. Wye cables are cheep and may work, but you'll probably have ground problems if the recording console is in another room. Also the transformers isolate one of the consoles from passing phantom. 24 transformers, and 72 XLR connectors, that's a lot of punching, might as well just buy one.

yup, whirlwind stuff is VERY reliable, and will last him for years.

Take the whirlwind and swap in high quality transformers on the first and last channels... Kick and lead vocals... just how I might try and save a buck. Good luck!

You could even build the greens with 2 outputs per channel,
I thing this is the better and cheeper idea. I will try it this weekend. I wish not having gnd loop problems.

Thank you all
