Hi everyone !

First, I don't really know if my question should go to the Lab section or to the Brewery, as it contains no electronics at all ;) . To the moderators : you can move this thread in the appropriate section if needed.

I'd like to DIY a training drumpad such as this one:

It doesn't contain any electronics such as piezo trigger or such. It could but I won't need this apsect.
It seems quiet easy to build : a bit of wood and a kind of rubber / foam that will reproduce the rebound of the stick.
So, here's my question: where can I find such rubber / foam ?
I tried with the foam of an old mouse pad but it isn't hard enough.

Thanks in advance for your replies.

I was at the flea market this weekend. There was a new seller there. He was selling floor coverings. Closeouts from somewhere. But he had a box of thick rubber tile. It's made of recycled tires. I bet that stuff would be just the ticket. If it's there this coming weekend I plan to pick it up. If I'm successful, I'll let you know.

I found this link some time ago, maybe some useful info can be found there

Years ago I did a piezo triggered drum pad from piece of plywood and thick about 20 mm good quality solid neoprene rubber (not foam rubber but stuff used under huge concrete slabs in building site) glued on it and was totally happy with it but I am not a drumplayer...

look at some mouse pads... some of them work suprisingly well for drum practice pads... You'll have to play around with a few, as some are better than others. You might even need to layer them. Have fun!

Ha!!!! I was just going to say that!!! My son is a pro drummer and he uses two things to practice on...a mouse pad and a pillow (believe it or not it helps build up speed where you don't depend on the the head rebound for it) and actually I thought of a third.....his legs.....he's always beating those drumsticks on the tops of his legs..... :?
TP

I already tried playing with the drumstick on my legs. I think that everyone has already done it.
For sure, you REALLY REALLY FEEL what beat means
But as a real noob in drums, I must train quiet long ... And my legs don't really agree with this idea

I'll try to find a better mouse pad. Easy thing: just go to your favorite computer workshop with some drumsticks and look at the face of the seller.
The dumber face he will do, the best mouse pad you'll get

Back when I was a young member of a military band (aged 10..)
The drummers used to use bits of that rubber stuff that you use to stop slipping in shower cubicles as practice pads.
In hindsight - works really really well for snare drum bounce
