Nearly 10 years ago I bought a DIY 1176.  I can't remember if it was on here or eBay or somewhere else
I loved that compressor it was really aggressive and spitty in a cool way

Like an absolute fool I sold it on eBay when I thought I wanted to simplify my studio and I've missed it ever since
I tracked down the guy I sold it to and although he doesn't want to sell me it back he did send me some pictures of it

It's got an IC input and a cheap Belclere output so it doesn't really have any right to sound good but it does to me

So a few questions...

Does anyone recognise this build?  Did you build it?

Does anyone know where the PCB is from? I think it's Mnats but not 100% sure

Can anyone tell from the pictures which revision of 1176 it is?

Thanks in advance

Yeah was thinking Mnats too

I wonder who did the metalwork though because the front panel was really really good
I'm not even sure it's not a genuine panel

Perusha or whatever his name was advertised panels without logos but shipped panels with counterfeit logos.  That's what got him booted out of here.

aahh ok yeah I remember him

I'm not massively fussed about the panel as I have a spare one anyway I was just hoping it might help to jog someone's memory

I thought the Mnats boards were out of production until I found them at Hairball - by accident:

Not under 'Pcbs' but under 'old Style'....

The also sell front panels. And aren't there housings or front panels in the black market as well? There might be more sources.

Unless the magic was lying in the output transformer it should be easy to build another one.

Yeah I've been looking into it, shouldn't be too hard.

I'm exploring a way of adding some kind of switching into the one I've already built

I think the sound is most likely the IC [never thought I'd find myself saying that] so it's whether I can switch the input section and still get it to work

Even if the magic is in the output transformer I should still be able to get one of the Belclere ones it's got.
It's just 1:1 so I'm thinking I might be able to just switch it in and out after the 5002 I've got in there now

The transformer looks like an OEP to me not a belclere.  This concurs because those pcb's were designed for Lundhal or OEP transformers.  The transformer is actually 1+1:2+2 (you can read it in the pic), which is what the OEP specced for those pcb's is.  Overall, from memory it's wire as a 1:2 step up.

Ah ok, I did read that wrong

Is it not this transformer though?

Yes, maybe it is.  But this is the transformer that is specced for the build.  OEP became VTX I believe

They could be exactly the same.

I think I have some pcb's for this build if you are interested I could have a look for them.

I just saw this auction.

That board is a self etch from the Gyraf 1176 old drawing.

If you want to do the same type of build look for an M.NATS 1176 Revision J PCB.
Use the IC input option and OEP A262A2E transformer for the output, which is the same as that Belclere transformer.

You will get the same sound as that unit.
