Hi guys,

I've snapped a wire in my D202 by twisting the grill, but I'm not sure how to open it up.

Does anyone know how to open these babies up?

I have an "exploded" diagram of the D202. I have opened these mics up many times, quite tricky! You start at the bottom, 3 screws that scew inward then you can pull out the canon part, behind that is a nut that is tigtened around the tube that runs all the way up to the capsule. Undoing this will allow the rest of the bottom casing (where the canon plug and circuit was) to part, then you need to unsolder the three wires that connect to the filter circuit (take a digi pic to remind you where they go back). Once that is done you can pull the top capsule away from the plastic body. Now you have a capsule with the tube protuding from the back. Now undo the fine screws around the base of the capsule (also take a digi pic as it must go back exactly the same.) carefully pull away the inner capsule assembly and there you have it. The tube part is critical for bass response, as it is part of a resonating chamber.

I have the diagram as a jpeg somewhere, if you email me (larryk at xtra.co.nz) I will reply with the diagram.

Write AKG Tech support. They helped me out with an D200 many years ago. They may even have replacement parts. I was told if parts needed replacement that it was cheaper to buy a new D series line of microphone which has a better response.

Cheers

Hey, i know this thread is long dead. Im
Trying to open up my 202s and cant seem to get the capsule out of the sintered cap. Is there a trick to this? The capsule part itself has no play.
