Background on Don Classics and Quantum J Audio

Dave from Don Classics was my engineer back when I worked at Metropolis Studios London. After I went freelance, we found ourselves missing the high-end gear we had been using, but didn’t always have the studio budget to match.

We started building our own gear. Our first build was a Gyraf SSL clone, and it opened our eyes to what was possible. From there, Dave took things to another level with his own designs, and the 250EQ came from our need for a solid mix buss EQ. When Dave handed me the first prototype, I fell in love with it.

Why the 250EQ?

There are only a few EQs I trust for the mix buss: the GML 8200, the Manley Massive Passive, and the 250EQ. It holds its own in that company.

Recent uses of the Don Classics 250EQ on mix buss and channel duties.

Hi Quantum, is this stereo unit? Thank you.
This is a mono unit, pots are non linear, so it is impossible to make an exact match between left and right when single mutligang pots are used across a stereo source.

With a dual mono configuration any descrepencies can be corrected to closely match the left and right units. That's one of the reason why stereo configured EQ's like the sontec 250 or GML 8200 are dual mono.

I used to use a tone at various frequencies to align left and right over a stereo source. However this is even easier these days with plugins that show your EQ curve.
