I was wondering about the DPA 4012 mic. It uses a 130VDC power supply. I always thought that it was to bias the capsule at a higher voltage than phantom allows for. But recently I read that it is not higher capsule voltage that it is used for but the mics circuitry. Can anyone clear this up or do they have the schematic for study?

I'm reasonably sure the OP was looking for some design information, rather than stuff to buy (but i COULD be wrong) :)

And hate me if you must, but my... pardon my french, BS-detector went off when i got to this section:

"The sonic improvements due to battery powering are:
- more softness in the high frequencies
- more robustness in the low frequencies
- a much more relaxed projection of the sound images
- less noise artifacts
- faster reaction time
- an overall much more realistic and pleasant sound "

For lack of a better term, that sounds terribly "audiophool"-ish to me :) Confirmation bias much?

LOL not for buying obviously. For inspiration maybe. The point being DPA isn't the only one who goes beyond phantom power.  ;)

That said, the guy does have some "world wide fame", especially among classical recording engineers.

Anyway, carry on.

Oh, and I don't hate you.  ;D

All the inspiration i can see there is that it HAS been done, but that's about it :)

If the guy had any sort of schematics or documentation of any sort, yeah, but all that's there is basically a guy blowin' his own horn, really :D

Not saying his work "doesn't do anything" - for all i know, he may be an audio prodigy :) But the wording and the subjective nature of everything written there, just... irks the skeptic in me, that's all ;D

REALLY sorry for drifting quite off-topic there, though - my apologies, Pip :)

Hey all
thanks for the replies - I've actually spoken to Rens about purchasing his version of the HMA4000/5000, which I do believe would likely be an improvement on the stock psu/preamp. But unfortunately it's just completely out of my range for budget. There are a couple other preamps that can supply 130, namely the Avalon M5, but again, that's outside of my budget too.

Wondering if anyone has schematics for the DPA HMA 4000/5000 or any other 130v psu for a condenser mic? All I need is some basis to go on and I should be able to get help adapting it to suit my needs. And I'm certainly not married to the preamp section - happy to use the ones I've got.

Any help would be much appreciated.
:D
