Hi All,

Here is my second attempt at DIY, Drip's LA2A v2, with UTC input A-10 and output A-25 transformers. for the mains i used the hammond 369JX(240v)

first things first, it sounds wonderful! i have only ever used UAD-1 versions, so for whats its worth IMO its the same compression character which is wonderful, and to finally have a real one (I cant call it real one can I!) is pretty amazing.

the thing i really like about it is how you can drive the output hard for some lovely sounding overdrive! which on suitable instruments will be well used.

there is no hum with mine, i have never owned a piece of valve gear before and i am blown away as to how quiet its is, its very clean, even if i crank the desk vol to full and the output gain to full i can just about hear 50hz cycle, but at that volume you could not be in the same room so i think thats extremely acceptable, for me at least.

i cut the front panel my self, and the graphics i drew in AI and used Lazertran to place them on the panel, its not perfect, you can see the ON switch and GAIN where i rubbed too hard to remove the decal, then realized that the isopropyl did it just fine with out a abrasive cleaning agent.
so for next project, which is almost done, a dual Mnats 1176, i think i might have that one looking pretty good, its all a learning curve i guess.

i don't like the Bourns pots I've used as they feel very loose, sound good though, but ill probably change those one day.

one more thing i have noticed is that that GAIN and PEAK RED pots wiring is slightly acoustic if you tap them, I'm assuming this is normal as audio does indeed pass through them but if some one can chine in id be interested to know.

this also sounds great, no hum, easy to build, like to experiment with the side chain options though...

so there you have it, thanks to Gregory and Jakob for these projects, they could not make it any easier. with care and a bit of luck they power up and work first time.

All the best

Pete

hi guys,

thanks for your kind words and support,

the case is from Shroff which i got from RS, it comes with the front and back panels but you have to buy the top and bottoms separately, which i had not realised, i like to have a stab at the whole thing but it would probably work out slightly cheaper for one of purhas cases.

cheers
pete
