If it's like the La2a pcbs he will probably be doing production runs every couple of weeks.

Sourcing all my parts still, got a few questions on some of the things, perhaps you can help me out.

1) VU Meter, you say same as LA-2A but I can find the model, newb.
2) X Position Screw Terminals - Where's the best place to get these, do you have part numbers for all 3 types?
3) 100k Ohm Pots w/ Audio Taper - Part number anywhere?
4) Both types of wire you specify, where's an easy place online?
5) Lastly do you have any finished photos of the guts in a case?

I think aside from those few things I've got everything else already, just waiting for Mouser to arrive. I've got all my Lundahls and the Allied stuff came yesterday.

Cost so far:

Still missing a few things, case, meter, pots, and some random stuff but here it is.

Drip v72 PCB – $100
Lundahl LL1667 – $105
Lundahl 1636 – $83
Lundahl 1578XL – $84
Mouser Parts – $120
Allied Parts – $30
EF-86 Tubes – $40~
Total $562

perfect !

ill go down that list in the morning ,

600 bucks seems right .

i have all the regulated power pcb ready to go to print

going regulated needs a transformer 350v (no center tap) @ 40mA /sdecondary  of 12.0v@ 2 amps ct /

plus a spare secondary for 55 volts for phantom . (not sure of the correct amp rating  of the filiment)
any idea would be great.

as of now i would use a 180-0-180 with 6.3v for the lamp .
then a separate enclosed filimet transformer for the 12.6 v @ 2 amps.

cant seem to find a transformer with all this built in ,
custom jobs are a possibility.

on the vu mete , it is not essential for use ,
but does help with a visualization  of the signal
going out .

for the vu meter go to http://www.meterdistributor.com/ and look for "SIFAM METERS"  It's the AL29WF model, same as the drip LA2A. They're located in california and good on delivery.

Thanks,
    Charlie

The VU meter is about $60.00 USD without the light box, the light box is $20.00 USD.

You can find the 100k pots at any electronic distributor. I got mine @ mouser.

may be big, but you can join the windings for 12.6V and 200V would have extra headroom that can be dropped with CRC filter

thank you guava for that transformer !!!

ill print the regulated board very soon .
as time and money permit.

mr sousa ,

ill have to write a small document on the routing
of the pcb , but many parts of it can be by passed or re-routed .

as for a/b test
im very happy with the side by side comparisons
with a pair of siemens v72's .

if you bypass the pot and go with a fixed feedback resistor ,
it gets even closer .

i also wired up a unit with ef-804s and the original siemens transformers .

a/b was very close .

there is a little more bass with the original transformers , but just a smidgen.

IMHO : the pcb is layed out in an very effiicent manner.

the caps alone can be 50$ of beautifly sounding electrolytics powing a set of 20$ hex freds

going in to state of the art mumetal encased lundahll transformers .

.1% resistors /silver mica caps .  93" thick pcb board .

the pcb gives you the options to pimp your 72 off the charts.

im listening to a track of music being reamped into my mixer  one side using the original choke
and the other using the lundahl choke .

it's just so subjective.

but as soo as i csn get a guitarist in here , ill lay down some a/b tracks.

Anyone else in the building phase yet? I just got all my mouser parts and have pretty much all the basic on-board stuff in. I still need to order pots and all the stuff for the wiring but have the rest I think. Gonna swap out the 2x 10ufs and go with 4 (or 5) of the 40ufs.

also,

Curious about the sowter choke too..

what about a compare between the sowter and the lundahl chokes?

Does the exposed sowter choke pick up too much noise?

Will the regulated board give us the option of deleting the expensive Atoms for filtering in a trade off for a more expensive power transformer?

There are so many options here!!

you could also get edcor to make a custom xfmr easily since they have a 180-0-180

mr sousa ,
sure , you can link the thread !

as for options to the atoms , just buy el-cheapo axial zicons. :(  their a couple of bucks each , and they fit fine.
atoms are half the charm  , heh .

im experiencing no problems with the open choke and noise .

thanks for the edcor note ,  their located in my state .

i should try them .

Hi

I used to have a few v72 and some v76.- I personally think the special (magic bla bla) of the V7X series is the tx.
I could imagine oliver archut builts quite good replacement txs for the series,  I guess it's not cheap.

I had to sell them all because I was blank... totally overprized anyway like most of the vintage stuff. Now I'm most of the time recording with PGA2500 in my prismsound orpheus and I never had so good sounding recordings.

I just put something up myspace. http://www.myspace.com/telebossa  btw first track the voice is recorded with a Brauner VM1  second track with a DIY mic using EF732 and Dale"s M7... the tx is not perfect (t14/1) wrong ratio bass is lacking but it allready sounds good

Hey greg,
Would the Lundahl LL9206 input transformer work instead of the LL1636? As far as I know its the same thing, except there isn't any shielding around it.
Would there be an issue?

Charlie

Hello guys,
Could I use a LL1667 15mA (instead of 5mA choke) ?
Thanks Greg for this great work, patiently waiting for the board  ;)
All the best.
Eric
