Yep, code means E283CC Siemens, produced in Siemens Halske Munich, December 1961The DeVinci Code:
Surely it's a question of taste and the particular tube type? I happen to like good Dutch ones and most TFK's. I have stacks of Siemens that sound thin and not as good as Brimar British Army ones but you may prefer Cryogenic JJ's.Siemens valves are as good as TFK or Mullard or Adzam or Philips or whichever fancy brand you like.
Yes it would surprise me too but who knows these days, the most obscure things get replicated. Not really. These codes are quite hard to remove (as opposed to the white lettering). It would surprise me if someone would really go that far - you never know, of course, but I would be very surprised.
Frankly, I don't care at all for valve brands, as long as they're not some Chinese or other knockoffs. My collection of valve equipment is quite limited, as is my budget, so I can't be bothered looking for which brands seem to sound slightly better than others, described in very subjective terms.Surely it's a question of taste and the particular tube type?
