As for mu-metal cans, we do not purchase them but you can find a number of companies if you do a google search. Also keep an eye out on e-bay you might find some there. Most of the companies we have contacted as for a large quanity purchase.

For filters, it seem that there is a filter for each application. I would suggest a book by Steve Winder, "Filter Design". It is a good source for designing filters.
BTW I have friend who has a 24" or so roll of adhesive copper foil. I probably should make him an offer on it...He was going to build a pyramid or something with it.
I used a roll of thin copper roofing flashing to shield my wooden box that houses my three PM1000 modules. I cant recall how much, but it was pretty cheep at the home store. I glued it to the wood with a little contact adhesive I had lying around.

Hi Edcorusa,

I sent an email to your site yesterday about ordering a couple of transformers, -haven't heard anything back yet, but I'm wondering if email isn't the best way to do it perhaps?

How would you recommend that I/we order from you?

Thanks in advance,

Keith

I have contacted the order department and they do have your e-mail and should be getting back shortly.

I would suggest the telephone, it is the most reliable means. We try to to get to everyones e-mail as soon as we can, but it take a few days. For US customers we have a toll free number and other then after hours you will always get a human to talk to.

Brian,

I just ordered from Phyllis, -It was a pleasant, swift and enjoyable experience.

-Looking forward to putting those transformers to work!

Many thanks,

Keith

It sounds to me like the RFI filtering would just need to be low pass filter. Basically just a couple capacitors and resistors. Just shunt everything above 20K to ground.

Maybe add a couple ferrite beads. Maybe another with the wire wrapped around/through to make a small inductor.

Yeah you may not be able to use the pre next to a radio transmitter, but most other places should be fine. Especially if the transformer is in a shielded chassis. And you put a shield between it and the power supply tranny. Or use an external power supply.

With that, the reduced cost is significant. Would the performance be good enough for most "normal" situations?

Or do you think you would need a full CMRR filter as described here?

Figure 10 specifically.

I've got a pair of prototypes from Edcor (same as the MX series but with iron cores) with just the copper tape shielding. They are in a thin aluminum rack chassis using an external power supply.

The studio I usually work at is extremely susceptible to all kinds of stray RFI. I'll let you know if I have any issues.
