Elma 04's are very sensitive to overheating.  It's ruined if that's what happened. If there is no DC on the switch it could be that.

Hi J.  , W.  and  P.G.  , and thanks for post !

Clicks are because you switch at DC. Leaky electrolytics?

Is it a new switch, or are the clicks new?
Maybe you used a BBM switch where a MBB (shorting) switch is needed.

it's a gain rotary switch of a vintage neve pre-eq , that i used during a live tracking ,
when i set the gain before the tracking i detected the issue ,
the unit is part of the Bass player setup-rig

i asked to the owner how long the unit has the issue ,
he replied me that he does from a while,
but as the gain step is selected the unit work well
all the eq pots and frequency selectors do not have problems,

the owner asked me if it can be fixed with small cost ,
and i told him that i'll check about ,

any help is welcome

Neve pres use multi-wafer switches that affect several parts of the circuit. It is possible the clicks are caused by dc leaking into one of the wafers. Some may be connected via a capacitor in which case the capacitor may have become leaky. Another technique Neve used to reduce clicks on some switches was to connect 4M7 resistors across each pair of contacts to ensure there is always a dc path to ensure capacitors become and remain charged (but this is not likely on a gain switch)

Cheers
