Surprised by the 'rip' in this cone.  Most likely an Eminence 12", from a 1980 Rickenbacker guitar-combo.

Initially thought it was damaged, but more likely seems to be intentional/by-construction, since the paper is overlapping ('rips' are offset front vs back).

First time I see it like this. Always thought speaker-cones were pressed, not folded & glued into a funnel.

FWIW...

(Yep, dustcap bottom left, dust top left ;-) )

Guitar speakers are a slightly different discipline that hifi speakers that are optimized for linearity and bandwidth. Guitar speakers are expected to contribute to the "voicing" of guitar amps.

Can well imagine that musical instrument speakers can be way more 'forgiving', so 'certain construction techniques' can be fine.
Just hadn't seen this before for this kind of speaker, and have seen a decent amount, as most of us here will have.

Have a good weekend already

Heard from someone that it was also done like this for certain old Jensen speakers .... 'seamed' is the description.

So certain replica Webers do it too.

FWIW...
