Fader patent from the Victorian era

I saw a patent the other day and I am trying to find it. It was for slide wire controls, basically what we would call a fader.
Was neat and was from the end of the 19th century.

The historic patent database only goes back to 1840 https://www.uspto.gov/learning-and-resources/electronic-data-products/historical-patent-data-files

Older patents may be in physical drawers (shoes) but good luck finding them if they are not by date but by topic.

PS; Back in the 70s I actually drove to Arlington VA and did my own physical patent search.
