ha ha ha ha. reminds me of growing up  on the texas cost. We got hurricanes.  on many occasions the  national news reported my town wiped out, gone, destroyed. Which was never the case.
 
The sad thing is that is iconic of all news reportage that gets hyped up to scare viewers into watching more.

With storms there is huge asymmetry between all the doom and gloom coverage before the storm, vs. the never mind coverage after. That's why they like hurricanes better than tornadoes. They can wail about hurricanes for days in advance, tornadoes don't last very long.

Why do we want to see reporters standing on some deserted beach? I don't, especially if there is an actual storm hazard.
