I'm going to be experimenting with winding some of my own inductors, and need to know what kind of glue to use to attach the cores together.  Super Glue Liquid?  Super Glue Gel?  Epoxy?  Seems like I'd want something not very viscous.
Thanks in advance!

For gapped cores, you can probably use whatever.

But for ungapped, it's a real problem if anything creeps in between core halves.

Epcos has some very expensive glue aimed at this, haven't tried it though.

I just run a bead of locktite liquid super glue around the seam, gapped or ungapped. I like to be able to tweak the value a little via the screw's torque, then lock it in afterwards. My inductors are usually 2% or better, and they stay there.  :D

Thanks!  That's what I had in mind.  Tweek (not twerk) it first, then lock it down.

Sorry to bump this thread but I have the same question..

I guess that's what clamps  are made for, no ?

Is it necessary to glue the cores?  Are the clamps alone not sufficient enough?

I tried to glue a  couple of gapped core sets and it resulted in different L values (well off than before gluing the cores).

What exactly is "normal" purpose?  :)

I use wax and tape but I use EI M6 core, so, not much to do here... I've tried other stuff but didn't made any good, with the tightening of the lams when assembling I can trim the inductance pretty nice too, then I add some wax so they stay still.
