Bob and I overdub drums in what we thought was a quirky hotch potch way that I just discovered is quite popular. Bob records backing tracks for his songs in time to an ancient analogue drum machine recorded on a spare track. He brings these in and we copy them to my DAW. We then have an ancient Yamaha DJX that we use as a midi keyboard feeding a Yamaha Motif-Rack ES for sounds. We then overdub new drums on the keys of the DJX. Today I discovered that finger drumming is a well known technique; it was not untill I accidentally came across the AKAI MDP218 and watch a YouTube video that I realsied how advanced finger drumming is.
What sparked this off is I was thinlkng of getting rid of the big bulky DJX and replacing it with a simple smaller midi keyboard, I wondered if playing frums on a mini keyboard would present any problems so I did a search for drum pads and The AKAI and others appeared. However, theyy mostly seem to beUSB types intended for use wqith PC based syths but I would want to continue to use the ES via midi. Is there a good basic drum controller with a midi output?
Cheers
