That's really crap news. 70 is too young. How many legends of Hubbard's ilk are still with us? Hubbard struck me as a 'survivor'. He kept his spirits up after the incident splitting his lip in the eighties (was it '80s?).

It might sound selfish, but my New Year's Resolution must be to make a point of seeing the likes of Pharaoh or Tyner when they're in town. Sadly, they won't be around for ever.

Christmas seems to be a time when people of great standing leave us... I haven't got over the shock of losing Pinter - now I hear Freddie's gone...

I  *loved*  Freddie's stuff. Even when I lost faith in a lot of stuff in Jazz, Freddie was always accessible to me.

The lip injury was just bizarre to me when I heard about it.

RIP Freddie; -you'll be missed.
