G9 question

HI to all
How suitable is the G9 as a normal HI FI preamp. If it is, what is the best way to convert the balanced line in to an unbalanced one so I can connect a CD player . Is it possible to use the instrument input as a line in. My idea is to try it as a preamp that will connect to a Quad 405 power amp.

G9 is optimized for pro-audio levels and impedances, making it less than perfect for "stereo" preamp purposes.

There's many other Hifi-preamps that are both simpler and better suited for use in Hifi - look e.g. in "technicians filing cabinet" for inspiration.
