I came across 2 of these amps that are mostly complete. Sadly they have been cannibalized in the power supply to the point I'm not quite certain how it was laid out. All the transformers are there and appear good. I tried buying schematics from www.broadcastdocuments.com but that was back on November 14 of last year (Buyer Beware) and after trying to reach Palmer Johnson who runs the site several times, I've heard from him once by email and once by phone, I don't think he is going to send the manual. It's been over 60 days at this point. I think it's a lost cause. Does anybody know of an alternate place to get them or might someone be kind enough to share them with me?

I hate to ask but, I fear Google has failed me.  If this is the wrong place to ask, my apologies.

Thank you in advance for any help.

Hello Kambo

Thank you very much for your reply but I fear that I have already tried to do business with broadcastdocuments.com.  I paid them some 70 days ago for the manual and none has been forthcoming from them.  This is after many attempts to contact them. At this point I do not think they will come across with the manual. I believe that I am out the money.

My question is, Is there another source beside broadcastdocuments.com? I've tried that avenue and have failed.

Thanks in advance for any help

pretty sure I've talked about this amp and posted some things, tech section, or in a random thread.

M5382A schematic posted here: http://groupdiy.com/index.php?topic=44868.msg743872#msg743872
This is the schematic you would have received from Broadcast Documents.  I probably got it from EMRR ;-)

At a quick glance it does look very much like the 5382a is pretty much the same circuit as the 5530. I fear the gates numbering system is rather hard to follow.  The transformers are the same, 3 tube sockets on the signal board, and 1 rectifier tube. I think that's the beast. I thank you much. At least I can get them up and running now.  I understand that these are not the best mic pre's out there but, I am curious to see what they do.  I may well end up using them as a platform to build something else.

Thank you very much guys.

Archie

Hi Archie, you are quite welcome.  As I mentioned, this schematic came from somewhere else, not my own files.  I did use it to service one of these preamps last year and once it was working properly it was quite pleasant.  Typical for the era, with good bandwidth and low enough distortion but overall a nice tube sound (IMHO).
