Gates SA-39 Mod question

Rebuilding this and noticed a previous tech replaced the 16 uFd 450v cap but installed it as to "bypass" R50 the 4k7.

See attached picture.

Is this okay? I need to replace the cap as it is leaking. So I can put it back the right way if it matters.

Well, R50 drops voltage down by 40V. Otherwise the circuit would see 275V instead of 235V, which is original. I wouldn't bypass this filter resistor.

The resistor is still there, it's just where the cap is attached.

It is not clear to me what has changed. Can you post the whole schematic?
