I've got it sounding fantastic, but there's an od problem.

When it's not grounded, the trim switch doesn't work right, and the phantom is loud as hell, but the high pass works. When it's grounded, it work flawlessly, with the exception of the high pass switch.

What the hell?
 
not sure what you mean by grounded...

The board will have to always be referenced to ground if that is what you mean..
 
Ummmm, grounded, meaning that there's a wire going from the AC filter ground pin, to the PSU ground to the XLR's

when those aren't hooked up, the pre doesn't function well, but the HPF works.

When they are hooked up, the HPF does not work but everything elese functions flawlessly and super quiet.
 
Are you sure the HP does not work? :grin:

The highpass is set for 100Hz, which is very subtle on voice or guitar, for e.g.

I think you are hearing it clean up all the 120Hz hum you are getting without a ground connection.

Try a signal generator set to 60Hz & then switch in the HP. I'm sure you will hear something.
