I am finishin off my API mic pres and have opted for an external power supply. My question is how to implement the grounding from wall through to the cable and into the preamp case.
Here is what I was planning:
1. Ground wire from wall connects directly to one point on the power supply case, one point on the supply circuit board, and one point on the 5-pin XLR connector that feeds the mic case.
2. Upon entering the Mic Pre case via the XLR connector, I plan to connect ground to one point on mic pre chassis, one point on each of the mic pre circuit boards and to pin 1 on all of the mic pre output XLR outputs (transformer outputs on all 4 mic pres each need ground).
Does this sound right?
