How does your VU meter sound?

I noticed a really odd thing today. When I was slamming some test tones through my new G1176, I could actually HEAR the tones coming from the VU meter. If I changed the tones, I could hear it. It's quiet, but it's there when I'm slamming the VU. If put the unit in bypass, and VU turns off, the sound goes away.

Keep in mind, I have NOTHING plugged into the output when this is going on!! WHAT THE HECK? Anyone know why this is so?

PS. MY G1176 sounds absolutely amazing. I haven't calibrated it yet, but is REALLY cool sounding.

Many VU meters "sing" quietly to themselves. Try sending zero VU tone to a Studer and you'll see what mean! -Also, I've just driven from an old API-equipped studio. Their console meterbridge also 'sings' when you send tone to all buses!

That's wild, I never noticed that before! I've calibrated a thousand tape machines, and never noticed. I guess I've always assumed that the quiet singing was coming from the monitors! Crazy!

Thanks for the info guys!
