How to identify an unknown transformer

I have a transformer with 3 wires on each side, each side has a striped lead and then a matching color pair. It has no number or identifying marks anywhere - how would I figure out what kind/type of transformer it is?

First thing is use a multimeter resistance test to find the coil arrangement and Dc resistance of the sections , make a little diagram and label up the wire colour codes and post it up , post a picture of the item  with something like a coin so we can gauge the size .
