Does anyone know where to get small quantities (~1000) of the pins that are commonly used on hybrid/thick film circuits? I found people who make ic leadframes that advertise these parts, but as far as i can tell they are high volume custom parts. Or maybe, does anyone have a suggestion for an ultra-compact smd right-angle .1 in sip header?

Thanks

I've done it by surface-soldering a single row vertical header.  With the right thickness double-sided PCB, you can do dual row headers too.

hey thanks, cool gif.  yeah, thats a good trick.  for prototyping, that is the way to go.  only issues for me is that ispreferably machine-placeable and has some additional kind of mechanical capture, not only the solder bond.  I found a machine placeable version of bascially the same idea a while back by "emulation technology" with 2 locating pegs in the molding and a vacuum patch but it is either vaporware or obsolete.  and it takes up a bit more space.  I want to use the little clip-on pins that grip the pcb, or press-fit and take up little space.  standard issue on thick film hybrids.  I want ideally discrete pins, not header strips, and the mechanical gripping type that keep things in place thru subsuquent reflow/wave operations when the daughtercard gets soldered to the main assembly.  any other ideas for a source?
