I am looking for a way to attenuate a microphone signal (10 to 20 dB) while keeping the phantom power voltage.
(Attenuating a DC voltage and keeping the AC voltage is not too difficult, but I need the opposite...)
I seems the easiest way is a step down transformer with two centre tapped windings, but maybe there is an easier solution that I don't know?
Suggestions are welcome!

Reduce the value of the built-in phantom power resistors?  Apply phantom power after the pad?  I've used fixed in-line pads for years, and never had a problem......  Are you drawing a lot of current?

You can make a 20dB pad with a couple of 680 ohm series and one 150 ohm parallel resistor. The 680 in series with each phantom power resistors represents an increase of only 10%. Should be fine in all but the most marginal cases.

Cheers
