Hi, I am a new user
my question, has any one built a interface box to go from line to fire wire
some kind of interface box to hook a mixer to, line in to fire wire out.
I have seen it on the new mixers I have a beringer mixer I want to fire wire to my sound card
if that's practical.

thanks

You will find that the folks who manufacture the FireWire device interface chips will not even answer your e-mail unless you are buying thousands of parts. So you're better off simply buying one of the dozens of FireWire interfaces already on the market.

That makes no sense -- the sound card is what interfaces analog audio to the computer.  You don't "firewire to the sound card." The FireWire interface IS the soundcard.

maybe he means there's a digital firewire input on his soundcard.

...what's wrong with running the line right into the line-in on your card?

In that case, he just needs a FW cable betweeen the FW mixer and the FW connection on the computer.

Nothing wrong, but you just need an audio cable to do that...

Not that it is about "saving money" all the time - but I think it would be pretty tough to make a decent AD/DA converter with Firewire for a reasonable cost (a 1 off).

I do wish that there were more Firewire devices that only had lots of line inputs (no mics or anything else funky).  MOTU has a 24 input/output but it is reliant on their PCIe or PCI card.

Anyway...

They do have all kinds of devices, for mics line amps and so on, I know that some all mixers have line out but some mixers have fire wire as well,
the one's that don't have the fire wire out to the audio card you could have a box with audio line in and fire wire out, not sure what the advantage is? it may not be a big improvement not sure. Just a thought I haven't seen that kind of interface box.

Thanks

If you are looking for an AD converter interfaced to a Firewire there are a couple of 4 to 6 channel units available from companies like M-Audio (Firebox 410 4in 10out, from $288 new, available new and used on ePay for less). This is going to be your cheapest option for something that is "plug and play" in Firewire.

Ok
Do they make just a single channel 1 line in /fire wire out ?, Or does any one know if any one has built something like that, I am going to attempt to build a tube mike and amp the G7 gyraf audio I will get some parts from Ben at  http://www.beesneezmicrophones.com.au/      .I have built electronics years back, may be over my head on the capsule, who knows may work.

thanks
Larry
