Is there a way to prevent Brewery posts showing in the Recent Posts function?

I have tried going to the Brewery first and marking all posts as read, but the Recent Posts are still overwhelmed by Brewery posts.

While I understand the role of such a sub forum, it is getting in the way of checking for new posts on the core subjects of the Forum.

Function like that is needed on this forum. Silly posts about politics and superstition are making this place unbearable.

While in the Brewery, then there is a button in bottom right corner that allows you to mark all post as read.  While new posts will show up if it takes you enough time to read all the other new posts.

Ironically your complaint is that the Brewery is too popular with forum members posting there too much.

It was merely a question, if we have any more level of individual control over what pops up in the Recent Post page. I have nothing against the apparent popularity of the Brewery except perhaps for the length of the posts.

Yes, I already tried to mark all posts as read in the Brewery, but that has no effect on the Recent Posts page.

This might be glaringly obvious, but GDIY 'home' for me has always been the 'General Discussions' page, and I'll usually search by what goes bold, and is of topical interest. Guess you could call it 'drilling down'. It does make for more clicking than your method, tho.

I don't see a recent posts page, but If I mark all brewery posts as read, when I look at "unread" posts I don't see any brewery posts.

Maybe your screens are different than mine.

that works for me.  Hit that, then search 'unread since last visit'

*Bottom* of top page:
https://groupdiy.com/index.php
is a link "View the most recent posts on the forum.":
https://groupdiy.com/index.php?action=recent

I never knew that.

Yes, it is overwhelmed by non-tech fluff.

No, I will not be "strong-armed" into that morass; that is a stupid thing to post, and skirts "Personal Attack".

me either...

yes, that is just useless... so don't use that.

Kids today are probably taught how to be passive aggressive in grade school.

You get used to it after a while.. I hope they don't think it works.

BUT back on topic for the OP...  DO WHAT I SUGGESTED BEFORE.

If this was directed at me, all I meant is that reading and being offended by fluff is not a compulsory act.

I have zero problems keeping my posts limited to electronics, if that is what the powers desire.

I see a lot of new members!
So that everyone can have an enjoyable experience with minimal friction please read the following basic guidelines before posting.

1. Absolutely NO SPAM. This is just obvious internet etiquette. If you suspect that what you might be posting will be interpreted as SPAM, you may be better off not posting it. SPAM will be deleted.

3. Topics involving the exchange of money should be kept only to the Black Market or White Market.

Leave the Flame-war mentality at another forum.  Personal attacks as well as general hateful comments (regarding race, religion, gender, sex, etc...) will not be tolerated.

5. No member should register under additional usernames.

6. Use the search function (thoroughly) before posting.  It is quite possible your question may have already been answered by knowledgeable members that have been generous with their time.  A tremendous wealth of knowledge is actively updated and compiled in the "Meta" threads--take advantage of them.

Thank you JR I understand your suggestion. I have one below too.

I think the "Recent Post" page and such activity streams on forums are really powerful tools to keep in touch. Especially for those of us who have less time, are on the road with flaky connections etc. They also naturally promote landing in parts of the forum that one would not usually tread, which is a fine thing.

I would like to make a constructive suggestion, that may be possible in the "back end" of the forum:
To have only the first four lines of text in each post shown as a preview in the Recent Posts page. This may be as simple as clicking one box in the back end. Enclosed is a screen-shot example from another electronics forum's activity stream showing what I mean.

All the best everyone, t.h.

I use the "Show unread posts since last visit" link https://groupdiy.com/index.php?action=unread by clicking on my user name in the top right of the index page. (You have to be logged in).
This shows  a list  of unread posts (duh!) and I can select or ignore which ones to read.

Kevin just nailed it. The fastest way to navigate.

Scan titles under "Show new replies to your posts'.
Scan titles under "Show unread posts since last visit'.

I only open threads that look interesting.
Then I mark all remaining threads as 'read'.

Click and all gone -- done.

Awesome.... It's always nice to learn new tricks... I wish I had known about this sooner. Those President  threads were crazy..... Must have been several hundreds of pages between them..... all day every day for over a year.....

Thanks!
