So I just got back from tour and was excited to get back to some gear building. So I finally started wiring my 99V preamp kit. I had it powered for a few minutes, then nothing. So I bought a new wall-wart today, 3 seconds of power then nothing. So I'm trying to figure out if it was just too much current for the wall wart or if I ****** something up. Before I had the gain pots hooked up all the LEDS were on and looking good. Then after connecting the gain pots I was basically dead.

I'm beginning to think that I'm not cut out for this. This frustration is awful.

I think Joe said 30va 0-25 0- 25 or 50v c.t transformer would run 2 to 4 jlm's? I'm just building mine at the moment haven't fired em up yet.

HI Miko

A JLM99v only draws about 15mA to 25mA at idle depending on +/- rail voltage.
What AC wall wart have you got volts and current wise?
With no 99v fitted does the same thing happen?
Are all the voltage rails right either way?

You might want to insert inline with the wall wart output a fast blow fuse just less than the current value of the wall wart. Otherwise it will get expensive as the thermal fuses built into the winding of the wall wart will go and it will only be good for the rubbish bin.

Leave a multimeter connected across the wall wart output on AC volts. If it is loaded heavily you will see the voltage drop down below the wall warts marked value. If it does unplug straight away. Or run a multimeter in series with one leg on Amps and see what current you are getting.

Send me a couple of photo's to my normal email and I will have a look at the wiring to see if I can see any thing.

Does anyone have a Farnell or RS Components part number for the 5v dpdt relays on the JLM 99v? Sorry not meaning to hijack your thread Miko!
Thanks
