Hi all,

The gain on my KM56 seems a little low. I was having a problem that I was able to fix, and now it sounds excellent, other than that the gain is low. I should add it seemed low before the present problem which turned out to be a resistor that worked its way loose on one end. I was wondering about the output transformer strapping - if it's strapped for 50 ohms the gain would be lower than if it's strapped for 200 ohms. Is that correct or is it the other way around?

Thanks

Here is a picture of what I believe are the secondary connections for the transformer, although I could be wrong. Can anyone tell how the mic is strapped from looking at this?

this km54 schematic looks like the two greens connect and the output is on the blue and white wires, maybe someone that can read german can verifiy this.

I would guess the 56 has the same transformer.

from the infopool section at neumann. A red dot by the number plate indicates the microphone was wired as 50 ohms when built. 6 db lower output.

Hi Gus,

Thanks.

Mine has a red dot. I'm not sure if it is still wired for 50 ohms, though. I've looked at the wires and tried to figure out what's up with the transformer connections (as per the picture above) using a DMM, but I just can't tell. At the moment it's working well, so I think I won't fix it any more. :green:

The original problem was that a resistor lead had come loose - I resoldered it and it sounds great.

Thanks again,
