I posed this query to the Lab in the all things LA thread, but I afraid it has gotten buried.

I am about to put together an LA-2A and I have an idea about making the circuit into mic amp with a Cinemag 150:10k (instead of the HA100) and a JLM Gobetween.

Will the signal have enough juice when it hits the T4b or the 100k pot to be effective?

Any advice and theory behind that would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

HA 100X is already 1:10, so 150:10K not much help db wise but better than nothing.

I suspect a 57 would not have the poop, but a AT 4035 would easily drive it.

Someone with an LA2 with XLR,s give it a quick shot.

Sidechain gain can be cranked up, so T4 lighting not a forseeable problem at thisjuncture in time.

I'm inclined to agree with CJ's reply. The HA-100 or similar ilk is probably as much gain as you can reasonably expect to get out of the iron as anything. Depends very much on what you are driving the mic with.
