LED in diff amp?

anybody know the purpose of the LED on Q3 and Q4? Compression maybe? Thanks!

It looks like a voltage clamp (approx 2V) to prevent Q3 from saturating (for faster recovery after transients) "and/or" to limit peak base drive voltage seen at Q9.....

or not.
