If your going for a bass combo, why don't you go for a tube based design like the ampeg portaflex? I am sure you will find a lot of information on this amp and it is a highly respected for bass, although I haven't had the chance to try one yet. I really don't understand why you'd want to have 400-500 Watts in a bass combo, our bass player has a svt classic, which puts out about 300 Watts (into an 8x10) and this is enough for any situation. In the studio, we even did some recordings with a 12 watt fender princeton
