Is there one book that's considered the bible?  Or at least a good jumping off point?

The "Loudspeaker Design Cookbook" would be the go-to guide.  On the other hand, if you're looking to DIY some studio monitors as a one off, there are some good designs already out there.  Before I did mine from scratch, I entertained these....http://zaphaudio.com/ZA5/.  I designed my own because I already had a lot on hand to work with after 25 years of playing with speakers.
