Am I the only one who gets nervous when I see that TV program about hoarders? I'm not quite that bad, but I have to make an active effort to throw stuff away... That I will never use.

throwing away stuff that works just kills me.

however, my wife introduced me to charitable giving (Goodwill?), and the fact that I can get a tax reduction by donating stuff that still works.
Double Win! Poor Income families get electronic toys, and I get money off my tax bill.

I think my "intervention" for the home, at least, came when my wife submitted a photo of my desk to Apartment Therapy, Unplggd & Seagate's "most disorganized computer desk" contest. A few weeks later I received the prize, a free hard drive with organization software in the mail. It was not at all ironic that there was absolutely no letter of congratulation.

Seriously, the comments from the "mainstream" Apartment Therapy crowd are making me laugh out loud now...

I now EXCLUSIVELY keep bench work at an offsite shop, not home. That helps.

It's all a question of parallel processing....

I waste allot of time " rearranging " moving stuff around as i get stuck
or run out of parts ,
But follow through & concentrated effort [ stay on one thing until
it's finished ] helps .
Of note  , i prefer to give to the salvation army as it has better local
consequences while places like value village USE charities to get goods
while they profit from it .

my wife insisted i submit some photos here a year ago but i did not want to resurrect an old thread, since someone has done so here they are. at that time i only had a desk with 8sq feet of surface area, you can see how helpful the 48sq foot bench i have since built has been at combating my clutter.
