Anyone know of any schemo's for a quick & simple battery powered pre..or maybe wanna help a newbie screw one together? This is what I'm thinking:

2 channels, opamp based, enough gain to bring an SM58 up to line level, no coloration, clean as a whistle & quiet, runs on a couple of 9 volts, and has some level indication on it. Maybe like a green LED for level, a yellow for 6db short of clipping, and red for clipping...and small enough to cram into an altoids tin, soup can or something similar :)

Any ideas?

That would probably do it..I actually found that schemo on Google this morning & had it bookmarked as a probable candidate. I didn't know where it came from though.

Given your suggestion about this one, and Samuel's suggestion on the THAT chips, I think I'm on the right track. After seeing Samuel's post this morning, I got a pair of sample 1510's (and a pair of 1512's) on the way. This looks like it may be a good home for them...but I'll put in sockets anyway.

Thanks again,
Todd

Sons of thunder...sounds like a pair of overzealous guys I've read about :thumb:
