Mickey mouse pre?

Anyone know of any schemo's for a quick & simple battery powered pre..or maybe wanna help a newbie screw one together? This is what I'm thinking:

2 channels, opamp based, enough gain to bring an SM58 up to line level, no coloration, clean as a whistle & quiet, runs on a couple of 9 volts, and has some level indication on it. Maybe like a green LED for level, a yellow for 6db short of clipping, and red for clipping...and small enough to cram into an altoids tin, soup can or something similar

Any ideas?

Well, there are tons of pre designs in the mic pre META--many of them could be battery powered. Check the green pre for a starter. Or the THAT 1510/1512 based stuff.

That would probably do it..I actually found that schemo on Google this morning & had it bookmarked as a probable candidate. I didn't know where it came from though.

Given your suggestion about this one, and Samuel's suggestion on the THAT chips, I think I'm on the right track. After seeing Samuel's post this morning, I got a pair of sample 1510's (and a pair of 1512's) on the way. This looks like it may be a good home for them...but I'll put in sockets anyway.
