Can anyone point me toward some reading matter on microphone design,
e.g. avoiding resonance and the shape/size of the rear porting for dynamic cardioid mics.
Have "googled" without sucess.

Hi Microx,

There is extremely little documentation in areas like this - the best option would maybe be to search the patent archives:

http://www.uspto.gov/patft/index.html (American)

http://gb.espacenet.com/ (British)

Other than that, you may be lucky to find bits and pieces in the AES journals and papers.

This THE LAB might be the best place. The meta has a links and read the threads there is bits and pieces. I think there are a number of people here that are looking for the same info. It is kind of like an arceological dig. I think alot of what we are looking for has been done just need to find it.

Like Jakob has posted the patent som, etime have bits you can find.

Thing that might help mass of air
mass of skins
flow in small tubes one end and both ends open
Air friction
they way(s) PET flexes when made it is pulled two way at 90 degrees and the pull is not the same.
etc etc....................................................................
