It's a smash-o-matic! Or, "tough luck 280" as we used to call it back in the day.

It's an interesting box, using a diode string variolosser as variable attenuator (like the audimax/volumax twins), high speed, high current circuitry for the side chain, a control voltage ripple reducing circuit, and just for kicks, it's normally set up to clip the gain amp on peaks to set an absolute ceiling.

When I used it in a broadcast setting, it really limited hard. Problem was, it was tough to get any "soul" out of it. It just smashed the audio.

If it doesn't go for too much, it might be fun to play with. I have a modified (by someone else :roll: ) unit sitting under my bench at work, in the hopes of reviving it and finding a use for it.

Believe it or not, since that last post I've moved, again! I've slowly been getting my shop together and I'm reaching  the boxes with all of my manuals...with any luck I'll stumble upon it..

Weird coincidence; Going through some boxes in my garage last weekend....BINGO!

I found the TFL-280 manual! (cue Twilite Zone music theme).

The only issue is the schematics are really huge fold out sheets. I'm going to try and reduce them, or sectionlize them at work. Once I've got it all manageable, I'll create a .pdf, and send it to you.

I'll get in touch when I'm done.
