Does anyone have a good source for Philips or Signetics NE5534AN?
I see them on ebay but they are mostly from China and I don't have much trust.

or maybe its the typical scarcity premium.mjrippe said:I think that folks on the interwebs have decided that Phillips or Signetics made the "best" 5534 and people are stockpiling them to service their now-vintage consoles, etc. I don't know of a source for the brand name chips in quantity and I have never had a complaint replacing one with current production.
Phillips had a mask exchange agreement with a number of other semiconductor manufacturers. They actually swapped raw manufacturing data with each other so they made identical devices. This was quite common in the early days when there were relatively few op amp types around.mjrippe said:I think that folks on the interwebs have decided that Phillips or Signetics made the "best" 5534 and people are stockpiling them to service their now-vintage consoles, etc. I don't know of a source for the brand name chips in quantity and I have never had a complaint replacing one with current production.

ON Semi was formed in 1999 from the semiconductor division of Motorola and later acquired Sanyo, and most recently Fairchild and has a strategic partnership with Fujitsu all of which is typical of the industry. Phillips/Signetics semiconductor business is now NXP. There is no reason so suspect ON Semi versions of the 5534 are any different to Signetics ones.

I wouldn't do this. I would use Signetics or NXP instead......clintrubber said:.... Who knows it increases number of hits when looking for 5534 with one L.
