So, a friend of mine has gotten the opportunity to buy a neumann rsm 190 stereo mic for cheap, but it doesnt come with the Matrix box that codes MS or XY and has the PAD and Lowcut. The mic itself is a figure of 8 capsule, and a cardoid capsule on top. Outputs on a 7 pin mic cable to the Matrix box which decodes the signal and sends it to a 5 pin output.
I tried looking into one of these matrix boxes to see if I could perhaps copy it, but neumann has cleverly painted alot of components so that you cannot tell what it is.
Is there any way that we could hook up the mic so that i might be used anyway?
My friend just wants to use it as an MS mic, so im thinking that we could perhaps build some sort of MS encoder box, with attenuation for the Side signal to regulate how wide the signal is.
Or even just connect the mic so that we get the M and S signals separately, and just do all of the encoding afterwards.
Im just wondering if anyone has any ideas where to start. First, any ideas on how i can find out what the 7 pins from the mic do?
Thanks for any suggestions!
