Hey,

I believe I will be back on PCB layout mid Feb and I have some projects in mind to work on.
I would like to hear from you, and get some suggestions of good projects for the community.

here's my wishlist:

- SpectraSonic 101, 4 channels in one board, some input transformer options, PSU onboard.
- aammeekk 2500 micpre with option to discrete opamp on output (half way there)
- Reddddddd47 micpre (my first layout for tubes)

I also want to do the 553 eq but Elco is doing a great job on that one so I will pass for now.

so ??

Fabio

mhhhh....

the redd47 fist !
then...
no wait... :?
the amek first...
mhhhh...
no maybe the spectras....
mhhhh...

i dunno... why not the slowblow instead of the redd47?

Fabio for president !
Cheers :guinness:

How about a PCB for the S*P*L Tr%ns*@nt D*s%gn$r ?

Juergen did a mighty veroboard job on that one, but a dedicated PCB might get more people started...

Bye,

Peter

Neeno,
good call, the Slowblow is very interesting, is there a layout for that already right?

Peter,
Schemo pls!! :green:

Schemo pls!! :green:[/quote]

I can't find back the thread we had about this right now, but I have the
schematic that IJR(sp?) has drawn at home.

Will email it tonight.

Juergen did various updates & additions:

http://www.oldcrows.net/~jhaible/transient/jh_tran_gate.html

which shows his project and lists the schematics:

http://www.oldcrows.net/~jhaible/transient/jh_trangate_sch_p1.pdf
http://www.oldcrows.net/~jhaible/transient/jh_trangate_sch_p2.pdf
http://www.oldcrows.net/~jhaible/transient/jh_trangate_sch_p3.pdf

Maybe the extended version is the way to go - or maybe it's too much for people and the 'stock' version is da bomb - dunno.
If the version from Juergen is a serious candidate it'll of course be best to contact him to see if it's all fine by him to use his schematics & design-additions.

Bye,

Peter

if you are after ideas...

some sort of mid-1970s American EQ
noise gates
some sort of 1960s UK inductor EQ that used to run of -24volt

and off the wall ideas
active monitor controller that include Mikkels DAC cards
PSU only cards for the valve projects we have around here...
8 channel "side cars" for inputting into a modular active summing box (with panning)

(cough) - remember the Omegs?

some sort of mid-1970s American EQ
noise gates
some sort of 1960s UK inductor EQ that used to run of -24volt

Name it! :green:
Well I have no EQ boards at all so EQs are welcome here, then Helios and 553 comes to mind...

OK! S*P*L Tr%ns*@nt D*s%gn$r got some already :thumb:

You got it

As in that you have the IJR-drawn schematic yourself already ?
OK :thumb:
And if not just let me know.

Bye

I think that would be a nice idea - it would be handy for paranoid people like me who don't like messing about with high voltages. This is the main reason I avoid valve stuff.

I like the sound of the R3dd47 - I have heard very good things about these.

Personally, I would like to see general purpose function boards such as providing pads and phantom power, etc. (I know it is simple, but it is quicker than breadboarding).

Also, a general solid-state power supply board would be cool for say between 15-25V plus 48V.

I guess I might be a minority but I wouldn't jump for any tube design PCB because it is too easy (and fun snce I do it competantly  ) to build tube stuff P2P or on turrets.

I like to get SS design boards because I can neither lay out or make complicated SS designs PCB and know zero about SS stuff... so I'll buy boards or even kits.

I would vote for some EQ... like for instance there is the Pultec and the Calrec but I think it would be cool to have a simple EQ that would pair with the simpler comp and pre designs like FETboy, Green (not so simple but easy), the simple el-op that was posted recently.

Another idea, just blathering here, would be like some boards and PS that were complimentary or integrated enough to be used as a channel strip. Pre/comp/EQ yanno... Maybe not all on one board but with the thought that they can be easily built into one box????

There's already the G9-spare-HT-PSU board, could be a starting point
to form ideas.

And for that there's already the PSU-board of Fabio...

Sorry to spoil the fun

Shot in the dark here, but how about a little discrete harmonic distortion? A nice aural enhancer project would be a good addition to the Pro Audio DIY racks, I think. Just like monosodium glutomate, you can't have too much of a good thing.

Uhmmm... i love this place :thumb:

Ok, tube PSU, need to learn more, you guys think we can do a universal PSU for tube stuff?

I like the channel strip idea, have considered some combinations:

- 312 + 553 + VCA comp
- FETboy + passive EQ + What comp

but someone will say `why if we can built them with the boards separated and make other combinations`... true so lets skip the channels for now

Kruz said me SlowBlow is going to be updated so lets wait for that.

Dear Fabio,

I would ask for creating reusable building blocks, not so much entire products on a single PCB as their use is limited. Once you have even a few building blocks the combinations become numerous.
I know I have been on this soapbox before, BUT since you asked here are my suggestions:
1. Generic mic-pre front end using relays (pad, phase, phantom).
2. Simple phantom rectifier with regulator (simple LM317HVT based). People are constantly trying to derive phantom power from whatever they got. Add small 48V triad/tamura transformer and you have phantom power for any project.
3. Sidechain comressor boards like JoeCheep and Forssell
4. Gain stage host pcb for discrete opamps. Jumper configurable for inverting/non-inverting. You can add for make up gain to a compressor or EQ.
5. Gain stage host pcb for tube gear. The LA-2A output is a proven make up gain stage that could be recycled in many situations.
6. Balanced signal bypass boards with relays.

Cheers,
Tamas
