It doesn't surprise me that Speedy Sr was also a kickass jazz player.
In the Stratosphere boogie vid, Jimmy Bryant plays the guitar.
How do these guys get to be so good? And at multiple instruments ??
That's quite easy. You just become a good fiddle player, go to hospital for about a year with nothing to do except play reels and jigs on the guitar.
'The last guitar you'll ever wear'  - a Gibson ES350T    .....  best semi ever !
have you tried a 225TD?

Not working for me :) My frequent hospital stays leave me struggling to drink thru a straw!

Surely! What's not to like? Slim body, classic Gibson single sharp cut, simple electronics.
Mmmm. Love it.

The 350T is a bit more deluxe with solid carved top and the fancy neck build/finish.

If I had the dough, it would be a Byrdland though!

Here's a nice ES350T - could be a laminated top here - looks pretty figured and is a modern build. Never mind, I'd buy it!

Man, you is the man! I have a whole new respect .. on top of that due to the deep knowledge of audio electrical engineering.

Wow.

I was always after one until I came across this ES 175 copy in '98 by Tanglewood. It was only £225.00. There was also L5 copy next to it and I have kicked myself since for not buying it too.

However, this copy will give a good ride to original Gibson for its money. A superb neck and a great action. I can't say it has cheap machine heads because I bend the hell out of the strings and it is still in tune.  I am still going to change the stock pick-ups though but that's another story.

I never owned a Gibson but I had  a cracking Gretsch Nashville that I sold to a close friend. Now, if you played it you would re-consider your view. I have my eyes on a Duo Jet though.

But, yes double respect to Abbey for two 350T.

That's a nice looker there in the Tanglewood. I've played a few of their guitars and have found them to be quite good players, especially considering the modest outlay.

I'm always on the lookout for a good largish semi - the Gretsch stuff is pretty great. I love the originals, although whoever decided that simplifying assembly of the electronics and preventing 'buckle rash' at the back by incorporating a great, big bean bag on the rear should be tarred and feathered.

That bag is a deal breaker for me - the modern stuff is much more appealing for the lack of it!

I had an old lawsuit Ibanez back in the early 80s, which I foolishly let go to a girlfriend of the time ...
I loved that guitar and regret not picking up a Gibson version back then.

I also passed on a Gibson L5C 60s model. Whhat was I thinking???

Nowadays, I think of selling a few of my guitars to fund an ES350T. It's also on my bucket list!

Congrats from a fellow pedal steel-er. Your pitch-ear will never be the same. Get to the gig early to tune 101 strings, pedals and knees.

Those are just quick finds. Check Lloyd Green, John Huey, Weldon Myrick, Buddy Emmons, Tommy White, Mike Johnson, Doug Jernigan

The Time Jumpers are at '3rd & Lindsley' in Nashville frequently on Monday nights. A site to see.

Good players can make a steel sound fretted just as much as "slide" when they want. Very amazing instrument. Really cool in person.

Thanks kindly Glenn

That's some great additions to this resource list that others have been adding to.

I'll be sure and add them to my 'study' list.

I am surely waiting anxiously for my new gem to arrive.
Good thing I've been using the steel (and nylon) finger claw picks for a while now :)

It's going to be a great experience! And I hope to master tuning the 10 strings (touch wood)

Alec
