dufo: just order them online from Mouser and select International Global Mail as the shipping method for a $12 flat fee. You won't pay GST unless your order exceeds $500 AUD and it only takes a week or so to get your parts.

soundguy: RS Australia carries only Elna Starget according to the April 2004 - March 2005 catalog. Maybe that's what you want though...

SOUNDGUY - you can get Elna SILMIC ( THE top of the range), from here...

I have ordered from these guys. They turned up ok, but they got one of the values wrong, I havent heard back from them yet, but you CAN get them no porb. They also have the Cerafine range.

MNATS - I had thought of ordering from either Mouser or digikey. But, for a few pieces at only 20 odd cents each isnt worth the extra $$$ for handling and shipping...

Im thinking SURELY someone in Australia must carry them? I have rung around, looked on the net, no luck.

Good find
Interesting quote
The SILMIC II is best for reproducing different timbres, natural colors and warmth in a recording. It offers most presence in the low-mid range with lots of texture (tangible). Bass is round and warm, the mid and highrange are very refined, 'silky', quiet, but with lots of openess (more open than CERAFINE, less open than Black Gate FK).

The CERAFINE is also very good for reproducing different timbres, natural colors, but has a more direct sound than SILMIC (less direct than Black Gate FK). Bass is round and warm, the midrange has most presence and the high range is lively.

The Black Gate FK has the most open and clean sound, with the main presence in the high range. It sounds thinner, offers somewhat less texture and timbre. It offers most pulse, attack in both the low, mid and high ranges.

Yeah, the only worry is I have emailed them twice re. the wrong value, and no answer yet. Only been a couple of days though...

I have yet to test the SILMIC and cerafine in my SSL clone and a couple of other things....

Need to get the Nichicons as well. Would like to try and hear the differences. Havent put a great amount of thought into electro's till now.

The cerafines look like good value for $$

Sorry, I thought you were ordering a few things not just a couple of caps.
Hmm, I recall a post from Jakob:

Anyway, if you just want to try a few in your SSL shoot me an email and I'll dig some PWs out of my parts bin...or just tell me what you want and I'll include it in my next order from Mouser.

Mnats,

Thanks for that link too!

Its interesting. Some guys have changed caps and claim they do hear a difference. For example, I think soundguy was using Panasonic FC's, and hated them. Thats just one that comes to mind.

At the moment I have FC's in mine, seems to go ok.

yeah, Im not the biggest fan of panasonic FC's, hate is a strong word, they do a thing and Im usually not looking for that, Ive kept them in some circuits though, everything has its place I guess.

Looking at my history it looks like I do a Mouser order every 4 or 5 months. I just did one so it may better if you just need a few parts to tell me what you want and I'll see if I can find them in my workshop.
Since we are on the subject, where abouts are you sourcing Wima's from in Australia?
Which Wimas? RS Australia carries some polyester Wima caps.
Some of those quotes from Elna sound like lines from the movie "Sideways".
