Non-shorting switch in mic preamp-what's your experience?

I know what the math says will happen, but what is peoples' actual experience when used to shunt a portion of NFB to ground around an op amp? Do they perform just fine?

Will click some with signal present, but not too bad. Your gain is going to 1x between steps, not to inf.
