I am breaking this off the other thread that started with a different topic.
Let me know if I should move this thread to the Brewery section.

I think so far we have the following people interested:
Wilebee
fum
nwsoundman
zee1usa

It sounds like most of you are in Seattle so it may be more convenient to meet there. There are only a few good surplus places in Portland, but if we meet here we could make it part of the meeting to drop by one of them.

Tamas

I put Seattle in my profile as it is more recognizable to others. I live just north of Seattle in Everett. I am game to take a mini road trip down south. I have been wanting to check out Portland for a while now.

Sounds fun.

R5D3 is in milwaukie. very esoteric place. from old meters to tubes to scopes. you never really know. no chips really. mostly older stuff.

R5D3 is great. Lots of tube stuff. That is where I found the 1965 Limpander (tube broadcast limiter). I have found several power transformers for tube circuits that cost a hundred bucks new. If you are a regular you end up paying a couple of bucks for them. I just picked up four shielded audio transformers marked A14309 for a dollar each.

Wacky Willies is turning into the dumping grounds for OHSU. If you need two hundred petri dishes and other medical crap that is the place to go.
Never made it to Cascade, but one of these days I will get my butt over there.

With all surplus places you have to show up every week Thursday or Friday before the rest of the voltures descend.

any thoughts on a nw meeting of sorts?
sounds interesting, and im sure ill be the yougest individual attending, making it an awkward meeting of sorts, but sounds good to me.

where exactly is r5d3? hours of operation?

cascade is going to be closing in a couple months. their landlord wants to sell the buiding for way more than its working, and subsequently, cascade has been having sales like mad. 50percent off for two months - it only gets more and more cheaper as their projected closing in mid december or so approaches.

they will be moving if they ever find a place, but think about how much that would suck to move all that stuff.
damn.

Well, I had no idea that there are many people in the NW interested in this. It must be the eight months out of a year continuous rain and darkness...

I will look into a mailing list and an easy to find meeting place.
How does October 16th sound, down here in Portland this time?

Tamas

If you want to meet on the 16th of October
please email me at: gfargone (at) yahoo (dot) com
I am open to suggestions for other dates as well.

There will be a raffle off of a pair of Calrad VU-meters, a visit
to Cascade surplus (if it is still open), a visit to R5D3 and perhaps
cooling off at a brewery. :guinness: :sam: :thumb:

If there is interest we can discuss different topics and
share material on design, construction, metal work, testing, etc.

Cheers,
Tamas

Dear All,

It turns out that there is a wedding I am supposed to attend on October 16th (the late discovery is a slight communication problem between me and my better half).
On the following week, Oct. 23rd/24th, it is my turn to be on standby for work and I have to be at work within 30 minutes in case I get a page. This leaves the weekend of October 30th/31st as the next best for me time to meet.

I apologize for the changes in plans.

Cheers,
Tamas
