The 55V tap on my Matrix-12 transformer has gone open. The 55V line drives the anodes of the fluorescent displays. I want to use a DC to DC converter to generate the 55VDC from the 12VDC supply rail. But there is something I don't understand in this schematic, the rectified 55V tap is also connected to the center tap of the 9VAC lines, which are the ballast for the flourescent displays. I can't figure out why this is so. Can someone shed some light on this? The only thing that I can think of is that the 55VDC on the center tap is adding a DC offset to the 9VAC lines.
The 55V tap is at the top right of the attached schematic, and the 9VAC is at the bottom-right.
