I may be over-worrying, but I want the best connection when line-level semi-permanent connections need
to be made "on-board", and when pc board space is at a premium.

It seems at first thought (and eliminating "soldered jumpers" for the moment) that the best mechanical connection would include:

maximum surface contact
tightness of the connection
use of corrosion-free metals (gold, silver)

...the two most common types being "slip-on" 2-pin jumpers,
and DIP switches.

Is there a preferred choice ?

One advantage of slip-on jumpers is that they can be made permanent by soldering, if desired....switches cannot.

For example, I am deciding to use slip-on jumpers, or these miniature board ...switches

I wouldn't use a DIP switch, a jumper would be way better.

I've seen some sort of cross-overs between these two. They have a spring-like thingy you can set by a screwdriver, that shorts two pins. They seem pretty solid. Can't remember where I saw them.. Farnell?

Hi, best in reliability are the hermetic relays , from cheap plastic OMRON for VHF/UHF , to airborne TELEDYNE, SIEMENS and many other manufacturers , most of them are gold plated, have glass through pinouts and low voltage commands ... i'll show my summing board in a few weeks  ;) Pierre
