Hi,
I just came across a video with info on showing the correct orientation for non-polarized caps.

It has to do with the outer foil shielding properties of the capacitor, and that this outer foil should be connected to ground.

I never seen this issue brought up before, I always accepted non-polarized caps leg orientation didn't matter.

here is the video:

I would like to ask you opinions on,
How relevant is this?
Is this more relevant to tube circuits than to solid state ones?

Why did old capacitors had the outer foil marked but then at some point manufacturers stopped caring?

thanks

This was mainly done for film caps used in filters. By connecting the outer wrap end to the lower impedance node of the two ends, the outer wrap provides some self-shielding.

Caps nowadays are almost too small to matter.

But How about building a tube amplifier Point to Point using Orange Drops or mallory caps?

Wouldn't it matter?

Also in Microphones, I was fixing a Neumann U67 today, all the caps inside the mic are marked just like electrolytic are,  would this matter also inside a Tube Microphone?
