I had the 622b which I sold and wanted another eq so I found the 622a.  I take pics of everything and the inside of this is different than the b.  Large black boxes are what?  Great candidate for mods obviously.  Thank you ahead of time for any guidance.

I have whichever one doesn't have the potted modules. At one point I started modding it, swapping ic's, recapping, etc.  I started comparing side by side with a gml 8200. No mods will improve the orban enough to make it worth while. It will always have a single sided pcb with long snakey traces and crappy pots. Maybe if you don't have a superior eq like the gml, then the modest improvements of modding will be worthwhile?

I should have also said that I think the Orbans are pretty cool as-is.  Id keep it around.  don't track everything thru it, use it on an insert for just one track when mixing, like on bass instruments especially.

I am between the Alta Moda am20 or an API 550a or an SSL 292 or Purusha Dual Pultec.  I try to purchase once or build once and be done.  I would love the Purusha Dual Pultec, just don't want to work for a month assembling it.  I havent even payed for the Orban yet and was coerced into taking it to the studio as I know it isn't THE ONE.  I can make do with whatever I have as it would be the weakest link in my chain but it's a touchy subject, loved by many and hated by a few.  Decisions, decisions.
