pwr  section, thermo switch,

better to have the amp catch fire then turn off mid song, more audience appeal,  ;D

implementing Switchcraft 12A's in place of the plastic,

this way it will still be working while the worms are working on my carcass,

PC board quality is good (pads don't lift during soldering)

the "Gotcha" on this repair is that the signal also goes thru the pwr amp out jack,

these PC mount jacks do not like the mechanical stresses brought on by being mounted to two things at the same time, especially in a music amp,
this is common with many brands,
i wish amp makers would switch back to the good stuff, at least at this particular location,

so we replace 4 jacks, hard wired into the now vacant PC board holes,
2 input jacks, pre and pwr amp jacks,

Those look like input jacks (neutrik?). We used 1/4" jacks with dual tip contacts for high current speaker output jacks. I would be more careful about replacing speaker jacks than inputs.  A common issue with 1/4" guitar jacks is so many oddball chinese cables that are not to spec.. so over time the jack contacts get bent out of shape and lose pressure to make good connections. Hopefully it is better these days than it was.  ::)

I see IC sockets so that is from before I quit, since we stopped using IC sockets while I was still working there (some 15 years ago).

TNT is a solid old soldier... raw is probably the expected sound.

Jacks degrade over decades of use. Normal wear and tear (IMO).

thanks for the input, John!

nice to have the experience around here,

this model has the spk cable coming up from the cab into a 2 pin Molex connector, so no output jack,

will change the spk jacks too if they come up,

lots of old Peavey stuff still out there, well built, most of it,

do not see a lot of Crate amps left that's for sure,

"Crate" ?

They must've typed that name on an iPhone...

Should've read "Cremate".

(on an iPhone, 'M' is next to 'backspace'. try to write 'Cremate' and accidentally hit backspace, and you get 'Crate'.)

I do that all the time on my iPhone :)

Had a Peavey Foundation bass and a Crate amp when I was a kid.  Best thing about the Crate was that you could remove the grille and reach through the port to stash things.  Things like beer, or what-have-you when you are a teenager...

Keef Richard had a false bottom in his shaving cream can,

hard to travel all over the world with that stuff,

never got caught, ol Keef, no wait....

wasn't there something in Canada one time?  ::)

The producer's desk in consoles was for hiding dope...  I also recall getting studio gear back to repair back in the '70s with roaches stuffed into 1/4" jack holes.
